The concept of a hospice house is simple, but profound. . .
It becomes home for terminally ill people who seek the sense of comfort, security and emotional bond that only ‘home’ can provide.
Even with the best of care from the most loving families, there are times as the end of life draws near when a patient needs a comforting alternative to home - a place where schedules are flexible, where children and visitors are always welcome, where cozy rooms are decorated with home in mind, where a patient can be assured of round the clock care by seasoned HNS caregivers.
The Kaplan Family Hospice House is conveniently located at 78 Liberty Street in Danvers, MA, and is accessible from all major routes.
Having opened its doors in September 2005, the Kaplan Family Hospice House features a variety of amenities for patients and their families including:
- 12 private bedrooms with baths and furnishings to accommodate the overnight stay of a loved one.
- A fireplaced living room with children’s play area.
- An outdoor gazebo with spacious sitting areas.
- A second living room with entertainment center and additional children's room.
- A spacious country kitchen.
- A dining room where families can gather.
- A library for solitude and quiet reading time.
- A chapel/meditation room looking out on the courtyard Healing Garden.
- Surrounded by three beautifully landscaped gardens and peaceful walking paths for families to enjoy the natural surroundings of the Kaplan House.
It’s a place where families can find private spaces for reflection and solitude, or more public gathering places when they need companionship and support. Where children can visit their loved ones, and have the chance to play outdoors under the watchful eye of an HNS volunteer.
It’s a place where patients and families can savor a breath of fresh air on their private patio looking out on one of three peaceful gardens, or watch the swaying masts of boats on the neighboring river.
